Wine Tour Tuscany: a journey into flavor at Gargonza

Have you ever visited a perfectly preserved medieval village, surrounded by gentle hills where vineyards stretch as far as the eye can see? The crisp morning air carries the scent of the earth and ripening grapes, while the golden Tuscan sun begins to warm the ancient stones of the castle. This is not a dream—it’s the reality awaiting you at Castello di Gargonza, the ideal starting point for discovering Tuscany’s most authentic wine heritage.

In the heart of the Val di Chiana, between Arezzo and Siena, our medieval village stands as a unique place to stay and the gateway to exploring some of Italy’s most prestigious winemaking traditions. Gargonza’s strategic location places it at the crossroads of three of the world’s most celebrated denominations: Chianti Classico, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, and Brunello di Montalcino.

What are Tuscany’s typical wines?

Tuscany has turned winemaking into an art form. Here some of the world’s most renowned red wines are born, each with unique characteristics reflecting their land of origin.

  • Chianti Classico, with its iconic Black Rooster emblem, embodies the most traditional soul of Tuscan viticulture. Produced mainly from Sangiovese grapes, it offers fruity and spicy notes that pair perfectly with local cuisine.
  • Brunello di Montalcino, considered one of Italy’s most refined wines, is made from Sangiovese Grosso grapes grown in the hills around Montalcino. Its complexity and longevity make it an unforgettable sensory experience.
  • Vino Nobile di Montepulciano combines elegance and structure in perfect balance, telling the millenary story of its land.

We mustn’t forget the wines of Bolgheri, where Sangiovese and international grape varieties merge into extraordinary blends, nor the Vernaccia di San Gimignano, a white wine that carries centuries of winemaking tradition.

Where to enjoy wine tastings in Tuscany?

From the medieval walls of Castello di Gargonza, you can easily reach some of the most beautiful Tuscan wine estates, set in landscapes that look like Renaissance paintings.

We have designed two unique itineraries that will let you experience not only Tuscany’s winemaking excellence but also the culture, history, and hospitality that make this land so special. Our Wine Tours are crafted to offer a complete experience, where tasting becomes a true sensory journey through the flavors, aromas, and stories behind each glass.

Wine Tour Prestige: between Montepulciano and Montalcino

Our Wine Tour Prestige is an exclusive experience for those who wish to discover two of Tuscany’s most renowned wine excellences.

  • The day begins at 10:00 AM from the ancient walls of Gargonza, heading to the first destination: Montepulciano. In the heart of this Renaissance hilltop town, you’ll visit a historic winery and immerse yourself in the world of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. A guided tasting will reveal all the secrets of this DOCG wine—from winemaking techniques to the organoleptic traits that make it so special. You’ll learn to recognize the aromas of ripe red fruits, the spicy notes, and the minerality that comes from Montepulciano’s unique hills.
  • The journey continues with a stop in Pienza, the “ideal city” envisioned by Pope Pius II Piccolomini. You’ll have 45 minutes to stroll through its UNESCO historic center and admire the breathtaking views of the Val d’Orcia, with its rolling hills dotted with cypresses and farmhouses that have inspired artists for centuries.
  • In the afternoon, you’ll reach the Brunello di Montalcino area, where another top winery awaits you with an even more refined tasting experience, paired with a traditional lunch that enhances local flavors. Brunello, with its imposing structure and elegance, will captivate you with notes of cherry, sweet spices, and the complexity that only years of aging can deliver.
  • Return to Gargonza is scheduled for late afternoon, around 6:00 PM—your palate still filled with the authenticity of Tuscan flavors.

Wine Tour Chianti Classico: the soul of Tuscany

Chianti Classico represents the very essence of Tuscany’s wine identity.

  • Our dedicated tour starts at 9:30 AM from Gargonza and takes you deep into the land of the Black Rooster.
  • The first stop is Monteriggioni, an 11th-century fortified village immortalized by Dante in his Divine Comedy. Its perfectly preserved circular walls enclose a medieval gem where time seems to stand still.
  • Next, you’ll visit a winery near Monteriggioni, discovering the secrets of Chianti Classico production. The guided tour takes you through the vineyards, aging cellars, and tasting rooms, where you’ll sample different labels paired with a traditional Tuscan lunch.
  • In the afternoon, the tour continues to Castellina in Chianti, one of the most acclaimed areas for Chianti Classico production. Here, a second winery will welcome you, offering the chance to compare different styles and winemaking philosophies, enriching your understanding of this extraordinary denomination.
