Historicity

Our story is our main strength, to tell our story, we have to start from very far away.

From 1300 Gargonza’s castle was a fortified village in the hands of the “Ghibellines”, then at the end of 1700 it became a farm. The first news of Gargonza as a fortified village in the Val di Chiana dates back to 1150: a quote that mentioned a fortified castle along the road from Arezzo to Siena: which is the same castle where Dante Alighieri spent his exile.

Our apartments

The self-catering apartments of Gargonza’s castle show the genuine nature of Gargonza’s resident ancestors.

Each house is named after its original inhabitants. Therefore, today we have the farmer’s house, the seamstress Niccolina’s house, the gamekeeper Celso’s house, the Palle house, etc. Although the apartments have been renovated, we have kept the atmosphere rich in history and the original structure.

Catering

Our cuisine consists of authentic traditional Tuscan dishes made with simple and genuine ingredients personally chosen by chef Gabriele Polonia among those of the season.

The pasta is homemade, the Chianina meat is cooked on the grill, the wines (over 60 labels) are from the region, including Chianti Classico, Colli Senesi, Montalcino, Montepulciano, all stored in the cellar. Furthermore, since 2008 the restaurant has been certified by the Italian Gluten Free Association. We prepare gluten free bread and schiacciate and serve gluten free pasta for our celiac friends.
