Breakfast at Castello di Gargonza
gathering center for one of the most important moment of the day
Breakfast at Castello di Gargonza is served in the room that was once the ancient “lower” olive press (frantoio di sotto) where the millstone of the old mill was located, to distinguish it from the “upper” one (di sopra) where the olives arrived. However, the olive press was used for only about two months a year for the olives. The rest of the time, as the old inhabitants tell us, it was already used to organize parties and dinners. This vocation of the Frantoio as a gathering center has not been lost with the transformation of the village.
Today, breakfast is an important moment of the day, families gather at the table, and guests can choose whether to sit in the main hall of the olive press or to accommodate themselves in the holm oak garden (giardino della lecceta) with a view of a peaceful forest.
For breakfast, we offer local products such as cold cuts and fresh cheeses, fresh seasonal fruit, and Tuscan bread. We can never miss the homemade cakes by our Lucia, who carefully bakes excellent plum cakes, tarts, and her famous biscuits. In addition to many baked goods and warm croissants, we serve eggs and bacon upon request. The cappuccino is still made with a good professional espresso machine, and we are prepared for those who need to follow a gluten-free diet for celiacs or are lactose intolerant or to other allergens.
